Technology for Youth Foundation (TFY) is an international non-profit organization that seeks to bridge the digital canyon among disadvantaged communities in developing countries.

TFY recognizes that access to information holds the key to the empowerment of marginalized people, particularly youth and women. The vision of Technology for Youth Foundation is to foster wealth creation, reduce unemployment and create self-sustaining communities by providing marginalized people in rural communities with the technology tools, training and resources to enable them to realize their greatest potential.

We are looking for computer equipment donations particularly (Pentium III IV PCs, hardware
and software) as well as working projectors, scanners, printers, or photocopiers. We are currently assisting underpriveleged children and families in Tondo, Manila, Philippines. Please email [email protected] or call/text 010-8694-6671.... Your donation will be greatly appreciated.

You should link the homepage of this charity so that people can see they are giving their stuff away to a real charity instead of just some guy on a website in Korea.

Good point. The only thing that comes up in a Google search is www.youthfortechnology.org/, which interestingly has the same promo text as the OP has, with the added extra line (he omitted): starting with the continent of Africa. I only see projects in Africa and nothing in South-East Asia... Also, their organisation is called Youth for Technology Foundation (YTF) and NOT Technology for Youth Foundation (TFY).............

I'd hate to be a mistrusting cynical B, but...better be careful.

I appreciate Eamo and Mimis for thier cynicism which is typical in these forums. I would suggest to you to try and encourage something that is positive for a change. Obviously you have nothing to donate. You would rather spend your time trying to hate on people. I have been a coordinator for TFY for a few years now. The majority of donations that I have received are computers and equipment that are so slow and obsolete, it is only valuable to the people I help because it is the only thing available to them to have online access. We had a website before but after losing funding, we could not continue the website. YTF that you Googled is actually a copy of our former website. Instead of posting these ridiculous comments hiding behind a computer, call my phone number or email me directly if you have questions about TFY. Even better, go to the Philippines and give a needy family or church the computer that you're hiding behind that allows you to be so negative and cynical. Don't try to ruin a good thing. Regards.

None of that helped you get taken seriously. Being the internet and all, a current, informative website would, imho, be a bare minimum to really get your project going and is far from an unreasonable thing for people to bring up on an open forum where you're angling for free exposure. Jus' sayin'...

Having worked as a researcher and a fundraiser for an international charity in the UK, I know that the absolute minimum you need is a website; funding or no funding. Websites these days are very easy to build, especially if it is only a page or two and you can even find web hosting free of charge if you look hard enough.

If you are on the level and would like something putting together, I am on holiday this week with little to do and I will gladly put a few pages together for you, as well as trying to find you free or very cheap web hosting (although you may need a credit card to verify yourself in getting a domain name.)

Having lived and worked in Africa, I understand the need for greater links with the outside world if things are going to progress there and I also understand the passion that those who work in this field display. However, I also think that rising to comments that you perceive as negative and dishing out abuse to people who may have a lot to contribute in the future, even if it is not in the immediacy is wrong. There are so many con artisits on the web (many of whom are based in Africa and the Philippines) and I myself would try to make sure anything or any money that I was donating was going to toward the stated cause. Did it not occure to you that these people were looking for a web site to verify that this is indeed a worthy cause, as they may want to help in some way?

If it helps you to know where I'm coming from, I have a Peace Studies degree in International Relations and Security Studies, which included many course moduals in International Development and Development in the Global South, so I have a really good understanding of both the needs in the Global South (third World) and of International Charity fundraising. If you want me to build your site (free of charge), or want to discuss your requirments leave me your number or email address and I will get back to you.

^ Well said, abiandjamesinsk.

I'm not trying to ruin a good thing at all. If this is for real, great, but as said before, too many people these days are trying to scam others and if you can't even show us any credentials, then do you blame us for being sceptical? I support several charities and applaud anyone trying to help, but c'mon, these days you're gonna have to show us some verifications. It's not that hard or expensive to make a small website (there are FREE web hosting sites!). And why would you automatically assume I have nothing to donate, I wouldn't click on a post I wasn't interested in. I am NOT a hater at all, always doing my best to be of help.

Again, if it's for real, good luck to ya.
