I recently took a Scuba Diving course through Deep Blue Quest
http://www.deepbluequest.com/
If anyone is looking to take a scuba course, or if you are already certified and just want to do some diving, check them out. The course was great, Russ, the owner of the shop and certified Master instructor (I believe that's what he is, it's basically one of the top certifications you can get in Scuba Diving. He's the guy who can train divers to become instructors) is a great teacher with 25 years of experience. They are a certified PADI dive center. The courses are also all in English (Russ is from the US.)
They are based near Seoul.
We all had a lot of fun! |

A "Master Instructor" is indeed a high level certification but they CAN NOT train other instructors. In fact, a brand new instructor can leave their "instructor" training with this certification. It means they can teach all the low level courses and 5 specialty courses.
Only course directors can train instructors.
Just an FYI. |

Like I said, I wasn't sure of his exact title, but he's the guy who can train instructors.
The point is, if you are interested in Scuba Diving in Korea, check his site out. |

I trained with Russ too and had a great couple of weekends. I saw a massive octopus in the training area off Sokcho which was fantastic. Unfortunately it was soon after killed by one of the Korean divers. So sad. But because of that I know it weighed 61kg! Here is a video of it. The visibility isn't great but you can kind of see how big it was. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBfVyH0GSiQ
Definitely hoping to go out with Deep Blue Quest again some time. |

Rus told us about that octopus, and I watched the video before going out. We didn't see any ocotpus in the water when we went, but some Koreans had caught one and had it hanging in a bag off the pier. They left it there overnight, I guess to dry out? |

I just got certified with Robert Lang from http://wetroksdiving.com/
It's a small side business, but Bob is a patient and awesome guy who will walk you through things until you get them right and so is his partner Frank. The open water cert is 700k and includes 4 open dives and as many confined waters as it takes to get right, includes all rentals and transport from Daegu to Daejin, where they do their open water dives. Oh, and they are SSI, not PADI. Neither seems better than the other, really, just differences in the dive tables from what I can tell. |

And SSI, PADI and NAUI all recognize each other. You can do an open water with one and an advanced open water with another. They are also all internationally recognized.
On a side note...Bob is one of the biggest people I have ever met. Just get off the train in Daegu and look above the treeline. You'll see him. |
