Long story short: A chinese friend ex-student of mine is going though a rough patch at present.
I'd like to help by sending some money. Not much... a couple of hundred thousand won. No problem for me but that goes a long way where she is!
But i don't want to tell her the money is coming... i want it to be a surprise. Therefore, i can't exactly ask for her bank details..
sooooooo... i've never actually used travellers cheques.... but if i bought one here (somewhere??) and simply posted it... would that be accepted in china? The banks there are even more useless than K-banks, so they will likely not accept international money orders or similar...
I'm now in korea, she's in china.. |

Hi Penguin!
Go to KEB and get a banker's draft / cheque made in Chinese yuan- it costs only 5K to have one made.
You know her name, right? Make sure it is spelled right. She can go to BOC and either put it in her account or cash it. Shouldn't cost her anything and if it did, it wouldn't be much.
Then send it to her in a card, but make sure you use registered mail so it doesn't get lost. Use EMS - quick and secure. |
