Hi, I'm new on here. I live in Houston, TX and have been offered a teaching position in Pyeongtaek. It is at Posung middle school. Does anyone know anything about this school or about Pyeongtaek? My recruiter told me it is considerd rural, so I'll get an extra 100,000 won and 5 extra days of vacation if I accept the position. I originally told him I did not want a rural teaching job. I wouldn't mind it if it is not extremely rural. I just don't want to live in the "sticks". Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Koreans consider cities like Wonju - 250,000 residents when I was there - "the country".
Pyongtaek is listed at over 400,000.
It is also the home of major US military installations and is supposed to become the main hub of the US military in Korea over the next several years. Which means the city and surrounding areas will be growing and you'll also be in an area with many foreigners. (Some instructors worry about getting placed outside of major cities like Seoul or Busan/Pusan because they'll be too isolated from other expats...) |
