My contract states that my flights will be reimbursed, but there is no timeframe on this. Shall I ask my recruiter/school to add this to the contract e.g added to first paycheck?

Thanks.

It would be a good idea to get a firm date specified in the contract, yes.

30 days upon your arrival is fairly typical. I would be cautious about this however. My first 2 contracts the airfare was paid for by the school before I arrived and there were no problems. My third contract I did a "reimbursement" and then the school said No, were not paying for your flight. Be careful.

With a public school (usually) there is no problem with airfare reimbursement.

With a hogwan, there is absolutely no way I would pay 'up front' to come to K-land. Make them (or the recruiter) buy you a ticket. To do otherwise is at your own peril.

Thanks for this. I don't think I'll broach the subject until I've got my visa issuance number though. Don't want to rock the boat!

Yes ... you should rock the boat.

If they're reimbursing the cost of the ticket and not a flat rate, if you don't have it by the 30th day start nagging and don't stop. My American co-teacher and I were the first foreign teachers at my old school and they completely screwed up the flight reimbursement, and we didn't get it for 90 days. This happened to be just when the won fell through the floor, and they (and the education office, and EPIK) still insisted on paying us based on the exchange rate when we bought the tickets (1000:1) and not the current rate (1400:1), though the delay was the school's fault and not ours. No one could see how this ripped us off.

Anyway, don't let them put you off, get it right away.
