Does SMOE provide an airline ticket for someone who is signing on for a second year? Most contracts I have heard of do not provide airline fairs for the second (and beyond) contract.

If you re-sign this August the answer is yes...

The new contract, however, states that you will receive 2 million as an allowance to cover your flight...

New contract also states that if you are not staying on another year, you will receive 1.3 million to cover your flight...

I have a question about severance pay and re-signing.

I am guessing you do not get your severance pay when you re-sign until you leave SMOE. What if you do not complete your 2nd contract (let's say I work at SMOE for 1 year, 6 months)? Will you still receive severance pay owed from the first contract?

you should get your one month bonus following the completion of EACH one year contract. re-signing means that you should receive your 13th month bonus and your airfare allowance at the beginning of the second contract period.

Friend of mine called Jon Pak with that question... He says that yes, you will receive your 1 year severance when you leave, even if breaking your contract early.

Pissed me off to no end when SMOE changed their mind about letting you take your severance yearly as an option... I want my money now! LOL

So what is right, this or what OculisOrbis said?

Does this mean if I stayed for a full 2 years, I'd get 2 months salary as severance bonus when I left?

Yeah, that's a pet peeve of mine. I wish people would say renewing or re-contracting or something.

Actually, for those who are re-signing this does not affect you. If you are re-signing in August of this year you are provided your typical paid return ticket to your home country (or another location of your choosing, equal to or less than the cost of the flight home).

The new payment (1.3 & 2 mill) comes into affect next year.

same here, though it reminds me of a joke Dennis Miller re-hashed on his brief time on MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.....

"Why do you drive on a PARKway and park on a DRIVEway???"

Boy, hard to believe there was a time when he was actually funny..... and MNF was not it..... Crying or Very sad

If you stay 2 years, you receive 2 months pay as your severance, with the payment being based on the average of your last three months worked...
Which is good because it means more money (newbie first year gets 1x 1.8 million... Second year SMOEr will get 2x 2.0 million... etc etc)
*Not using overtime, special qualifications, etc for those numbers... Just your basic Ba...

Hmm, I don't like that at all! Just another thing that can go wrong.

+1... Which is why I was so excited when the word came out from SMOE that they were going to let you take your severances yearly... Which, a month later, they changed their minds about again...

It's just something that would keep me from wanting to stay longer than a year or two. Imagine staying on for 3 years and the school owing you 6 million+ in severance money.

"Umm here's 4.6 million because we already paid you severance in your first year...right?"

I don't trust their record keeping abilities.

I'd like to hear any long-termers' experience with this.
