There are Citibank branches in Seoul.
However, they will ask you for your SSN when you open your account with them, which means your holdings will be reported to the IRS, although are supposed to be exempt from paying taxes while overseas. But the point of working overseas is so you don't have to report your taxes until you've been overseas for 3 consecutive years, on the 3rd year you will have to report your earnings on Tax Form 2555- you get a 3-year grace period to file your overseas earnings (I know this because I filed for tax years 2002-2005 when I went home in 2006, no problems then). |

A lot of the large national banks (Bank of America, Chase) will let you apply and open an account online. You can apply for a basic checking or savings account and use a debit or credit card to fund the initial deposit. However, you need to provide a US address, phone number, etc, and I think you need to use a US card for the deposit. Go check out Bank of America's website. |
