Hi,
I'm moving to Busan; will be in Seoul for EPIK orientation. Will I be able to use my debit card at ATMs in Korea?
My bank is a U.S. one that has no locations in Korea. However my debit card is a Mastercard. So, will it work?
Thanks so much! |

If it's got the logo and your bank lets you withdraw international than yea you can. Be careful of the surcharge. Depending on what bank you use. It'll automatically be converted to Korean Won.
If you have a minimum balance you have to keep. You'll have to work the math and exchange rate before you withdraw. |

You just have to make sure you go to a global ATM. Not all ATMs in Korea accept international ATM cards. Most banks will have one and they usually have a sign that says global ATM. Also, most ATMs at convenience stores seem to accept international debit cards.
Also, be sure to call you bank and tell them you will be moving to Korea and that you might withdraw some money. If you don't they might put a hold on your account for fraud protection. Also, emails don't work. I learned that the hard way after getting a charge declined. |
