Dont be nervous, it's not a big deal. Orientation is pretty long, it might be interesting if you're not a trained teacher.
Take some notes, participate, meet the other folk and you'll have a good time.
*If someone sneaks in some Soju, do not hammer it down. Or you'll end up like 2 guys at my orientation. One falling down a flight of stairs after he passed out and the other crying all night. Soju is strong. You've been warned.
Also, you cannot leave the center so if you like walking or running outside (like me) there is a small trail in the forest near the dining hall and there are treadmills in an exercise room (also a place to do yoga if you're into that).
You will be 3 to a room and there is a lovely announcement that will come on at 6AM and again at 6:15 every blessed morning to wake everyone up.
Dress nice but casual, it will still be a bit humid. Make sure you ask lots of questions as its hard to nail down the SMOE people once you're in your job.
If you have any other questions you can PM me if you want.
Cheers |

You CAN leave the facility and head down the road to a nice little Ma 'n Pa convenience store. Chairs, tables outside...plenty of beer and soju inside. Great place to unwind after a long (and mostly pointless) day at the orientation.
It's a looooooong week. |

No. You cant.
There are security guards at every exit and they will stop you.
The SMOE people in charge will tell you, specifically, that you are not allowed outside the facility.
Feel free to try and sneak out, I tried, but hopping fences are crashing through the woods just to get to a convenience store wasnt my idea of a good time. |

Maybe things've changed since last August?
We were able to leave the facility at any time. Sure, SMOE told us to stay put, but never made attempts to enforce the policy.
We even spotted the counselors out 'n about in the city...
Sounds like they started cracking down after the 1st orientation session last August...sucks. |

From what I've heard through the grapevine from various people who have been there, problem they've had in the past was people drinking to LARGE excess, to the point where the entire orientation session turned into a drunkfest LOL... IE: A non-stop party where the "learning sessons" (And I use the term loosely) were ignored in favour of getting drunk all afternoon and night, then sleeping in the next day |

If its your first time the culture shock takes some getting used to. That's without a doubt the roughest hurdle. This includes getting used to really slowing down and simplifying your English. Everything else flows after that. Even if you don't understand Korea you just start to memorize certain symbols. Like that Korean character in a blue circle = 'We sell cigarettes'

haha until they start kicking people out of the program en masse (for boozing). Those midnight Hyundai mart trips will continue to happen. Long live the hill. |

In the past and future as well. The Yongin learning centre is just college continued. |
