I saw that the ferries from Busan to Tsushima only take a couple of hours, so I'm thinking about going there for a long weekend.
I realize there's a not a lot there in terms of facilities, which is fine with me, but I haven't been able to find much information about it.
So, if any of you have been there, did you think it was worth the trip? How was the scenery? I'd like to just wander around and maybe do a few short hikes.
Any info you can offer, I appreciate.

Thanks

I spent 3 nights there during a Chuseok a coupla years ago. We went b/c we couldn't get a ferry to Fukuoka.

I'm gonna be honest...it was pretty crappy. I'm not into hiking/nature/all of that horse manure, and that's really all there is to do there. Maybe you can go fishing, too, but we didn't look into it.

It's basically a fishing village, and tho there are some bars and nightlife, it's geared towards Korean tourists and/or the local Japanese. English speaking visitors are an anomaly.

Despite being a one-light kinda town, prices for food/drink/accommodations still manage to be outrageous...it is Japan, after all. Beware table fees at bars! You sit down, they bring you some nuts, and before you've even ordered you're into them for $20 just for occupying the table.

I will say this - the people are incredibly friendly. We had lots of drinks bought for us and a lot of goodwill shown to us. Of course, part of that may have been paternalism since we seemed to be the only people on the island under the age of 50.

If you do go, check the weather before you buy a ticket. I got the worst case of seasickness I've ever had on the trip over there...you're gonna feel every wave in the ocean all the way to the port.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I accidentally took my Dad here once. Very Happy I needed to go out of Korea to renew my tourist visa and he'd come to visit for xmas so I took him with me except I didn't really pay any attention to where we were going.

There is really nothing there at all, it was cold, windy, snowing. Everyone else disembarked the ferry and got on a coach, we were left there in this strange village with military music playing over the load speakers in the street. Shocked

The authorities followed us to ask us wtf we were doing there!

We just sat in the ferry terminal cafe drinking coffee, shivering and smoking fags 'til the ferry was ready to take us back to Busan.

The crossing back to Korea was SO ROUGH, the Koreans were throwing up, crying, groaning and rolling around in the aisles. Very Happy Me and my Dad just kept our eyes shut so we didn't get seasick (top tip!).

I'm not sure I'd recommend going there, though it looked like it could be nice...in summer.

My Dad has never let me forget that little adventure either. Embarassed
