Do you listen?
What do you think of the shows/dj's?
None of the the foreigners i've spoken to have ever listened to it.
I personally like the Sid Kim show at 7pm. Have to switch off that Sam and Anabelle drivetime show though, pretty awful. |
It could be a better network if it weren't run by 40 year old Korean men. Seriously, they have no concept of what it's supposed to be. |

The one in Gwangju can be pretty cringe-worthy, too. But, the main demographic is Koreans looking to practice English, so there's no real need to tailor content to native English-speakers.
I could do without the PSAs that say if you think Koreans are only out to use you for your English it's all in your head and you need to change your point of view. |

I am seriously addicted but then I listened to all the EBS English shows before I had this option. |

Stupid station because of stupid staff, PERIOD! The music shows are all jokes and aren't worth listening to even if your life depended on them. |

Everything before 8pm is [MOD EDIT for swearing].........The hosts bother me........they don't seem sincere or natural.......more like jackasses or arrogant idiots who used to teach English and fell into the job by luck. The evening dj's are better as is the music. All said.......Happy my cd player isn't broken in the car. |

Shane and Erica used to be on regular TBS Radio, and I used to change stations to avoid their cringe-inducing banter whenever they came on. They're awful--it beggars description, really.
Their having a show on EFM keeps them away from my traffic reports, thank god. |

I was talking to someone from TBS recently, and I brought up this pair (Shane and Erica); turns out they didn't really know each other, they were kind of put together to do the show, which is why there is a lack of energy or real chemistry between the two.
Personally, Erica's voice grated on me as she pronounced every syllable and spoke really clearly, not naturally...Shane seemed okay tho... |

The music flat out sux. If I want K-pop, I can simply walk by any SK telecom store where it's blasting outside. However, I sort of like to hear some of the programs and the story time stuff. I live in an area where K-history and culture is washed out. |

It's said to be the radio station run like a hagwon, with massive staff in-fighting.
They've uprooted much of their staff at least twice since beginning less than a year ago. They did hire some true professionals, but I know one just up and walked out in a very short time period.
Classic case of management being in jobs for reasons they probably shouldn't be running something totally into the ground. |

Here's a post from April about some of the shake-ups:
http://www.zenkimchi.com/news/?p=1446
Looks like they fired a bunch of the people they brought in to be the face of the station.
Like I said in a post a few above this, there isn't enough of a foreign audience to call for a For Us By Us (tm) station. Most of the listeners are Koreans . . . hell, how many of you actually own a radio?
You can't really have news programs on these stations because most of the news breaks on the papers and blogs a few days earlier, so the news isn't exactly new. Likewise you can't really have too much commentary---shows in a talk radio format---because it'd be considered not only too controversial, but would be too difficult for Korean listeners. So you're basically left with Arirang FM and K-pop. Again, since the audience is Koreans, that's right up their alley. |

I know quite a few of them personally and yeah, Zen Kimchi hits it on the head. To let you know how screwy they are, Sara Kim is actually back on the station doing the weekend news. They paired her up with a horrendous producer and even though she worked quite hard, they fired the whole team and yes, brought in a white-guy.
The station isn't run like a hagwon, it's run like a Korean company. The managers have zero idea of the ground situation and since it's a civil servant job, no one likes to correct the managers. Thus Sara Kim being rehired...the producers actually vouched for her like crazy to get her back. The managers didn't even *really* know why they let her go.
Anyway, yeah, the night stuff is completely fine, and I really like the Steve Hatherly show. I'd say show some support guys; you can usually find something you like. |

the 11am show on both channels has a lot of useful info because it covers local news and happenings for their respective service areas. I'm not the biggest music fan, so I skip most of the music programs. I've played K-Popular a few times in class- students are ambivalent about it. maybe they need to play Wondergirls a lot more. Hell I don't know.
I wish they would podcast their 11am and 6pm programs because half their English speaking audience is on duty and can't hear them. The 6pm show can be a snoozer sometimes but occasionally they'll nail a great interview (How did they hook up with MIKE freaking GRAVEL?) No sense in complaining here- I'll just ask about it on their msg board someday.
There is a Busan channel now 90.5fm, and some of the other cities are adding stations as well. Maybe with an increase in quantity there will be an increase in quality. |

I just looked at the efm website..........pretty boring/ straightforward. Not much there either. I wonder how or if this station will really take off in Seoul/ Korea. Is Arirang better? I've never really listened to it either.
Funny thing......check the Sid Kim message board under "sid"......seems like there is a little "drama" there. Silly stuff.
Either way........lets hope some proper radio comes to Seoul soon. I enjoy listening to the radio in the car and office. I can only take so much of the "eagle". |

Yep, Kickstart needs to be kicked off the air, along with the two weirdo hosts. I've yet to hear anything funny coming out of their mouths.
They should be called Shame and Pathetica. |
