|
|
I may accept another job teaching English somewhere else in the world. If the new employer wanted me to return immediately to the U.K. to process a visa, for a job which starts in September, and I accept the new job, how should I leave my current GEPIK job?
I could find a replacement teacher for my school without any problem.
I know the clause about 60 days notice, and 30 days notice as regards Korean law, but how would you go about leaving immediately?
Thanks in advance. |

There's probably no way to do it right if you want to get a letter of recommendation.
If you don't care about or need that, then you know exactly what to do. |

I don't care about that. If I find them a replacement, it's better than nothing. |

If you don't care about it, just get on a plane and leave. Anything else will cause countless headaches.
I'm sad to see you go. You were my favorite poster. |

If you're with GEPIK take a look at your contract, specifically article 8 relating to pay. Apparently some of the GEPIK contracts have an error in article 8, and technically if you want to argue it, it makes the contract null and void. No notice, no default.
Sometimes things work in favor of the foreigners. |

Could I get into any trouble? I'm thinking I won't tell them before I leave, I wouldn't want them to somehow scupper my exit from the country.
I intend to leave money for final bills. Thanks asmith. |

I've found a job with double the pay. My interests come first. |

They can't stop you from leaving. Call in sick that day, turn your card in at the airport, then take off.
People do it everyday. |

I wish people would stop saying this because it isn't true. Only the article(s) in question which do not meet the minimum standards set by the KLSA are null and void. |

I'm not sure how this is the case. If a teacher breaks any item in a contract they can be let go, but if the school breaks a contract there is no recourse? I'm sorry I think you're wrong on this. If somebody is in obvious violation of a contract the other party has no obligation to further fulfill that contract. Let me know where to find this information in the KLSA, as I gave it a quick skim and could not find it.
Anyway, the best thing is probably the midnight run. That seems to be the norm
Good Luck. |
