If my school and I cancel my contract at immigration together, do I need a release letter still to get a new visa before my current one expires?

Isnt canceling my contract essentially a release letter?

can i go with my new employer the same day with new criminal check, transcripts, affidavit, health check, etc. and get a new visa number the same day i cancel my current contract?

can someone answer this question? Ive called immigration twice- one time it seemed like i needed a release letter anyway....the other time was as long as both sides cancelled i could get a new one right away.....

Whats the deal?

If both your schoold rep and you go to immigration together, you don't need a release letter.

If your school cancels the visa as they are required to within 15 days of your termination, you don't need a letter.

The only time you really need a letter of release is if you want to transfer schools.

I will be trying to transfer schools in September (two months before contract ends). Do I need a Letter of Release as well as all new application documents(criminal record check, sealed trascripts, etc.)?

mzeno,

You need a letter of release that states you end work on a specific date, and the next school needs to take responsibility of you the next day.

Those that I have seen transfer did not require CRC, transcripts, ect... as it isn't a new visa you are getting, but rather changing the person who sponsors your visa. Be sure to check the date that they give you as your final date on your new school visa, as it might only go up to the end of this current school's contract, meaning 2 more months. You should be able to get them to extend it for a year when you are 1 month away from expiry. (or maybe they will give you another full year)

I had my visa transferred, but also extended a few months ago. I had a letter of release since I finished my previous contract in full. I didn't need a new Criminal Record Check because I hadn't left (aside from vacation) since my last CRC. It's on file with the immigration office. I did need to give my new school transcripts, and show them my original degree, though.

Now my question is this: After 5 months, I've given my school 30 days notice as required by my contract. They are outright refusing to give me a letter of release. Does this mean that they are not canceling my visa?? (Why wouldn't they?) Does it matter why I've given notice, and can they possibly refuse to give the letter if I've followed procedure?
Lastly, if I want to get another job, will I have to do the sketchy self-cancel on my way to Japan for a weekend? Does that mar my record, even slightly?
