I'm graduating this semester and am looking into some History graduate degrees (just as an option instead of or after teaching for a year or two)

has anyone done any graduate degrees here? I was looking at Seoul Univ which seems to be the only one with any kind of non-korean studies degees.

how well respected are these degrees internationally? anyone?

Its been discussed many times, but I will sum it up as best as I can.

The general consensus here has been...

1. Unless you study Asian history/Asian something..a graduate degree from here is crap. (Not my opinion exactly, but again this has been the consensus)

2. Grad school here require little or no testing/requirements to enter

3. There are a few grad programs here that carry accreditation recognized in the rest of the world, but as far as I have heard..those are business/mba programs.

Korea university has a joint program going with Ohio state for a Techno MBA. There are others out there. You just have to explore.

What I also hear is that the Korean professors who are SUPPOSED to conduct all lectures in English will start speaking Korean in class. Even if the majority of students are Korean, the program says an ENGLISH curriculum.

When the foreign students complain, the professor simply says, "Oh, just come to me after class and I'll explain." Rolling Eyes If that ever happened to me, I'd go to the school's office and demand my @#$#! tuition back.
