Korean food is obviously the best in all of Asia. It might be the best food in the world. My favorite is yang yum kalbi with tons of soju. Soju is the best alcohol in all of Asia. It might be the best alcohol in the world.

Do you have a favorite?

When I eat yang yum kalbi and drink soju, I like to sneak peeks at the Korean women out of the corner of my eye. Korean women are the most beautiful in Asia.

Quite the statement here.

I agree some Korean dishes are quite tasteful, however it's not the best in the world or even Asia.
Having been to Hong Kong, the selection there is unbelievable, or consider China, which is a massive country with more dishes than you can experience in a year.
Many of Korea's dishes are quite modern and rely on such excellent ingrediants as spam. War time food. Delicious yes, highly refined no.
The preperation is relatively simple compared to many foods in other countries.
The lack of ovens in the country says a lot about the cusine too. Just one less way to cook. Sometimes I wish ovens where more popular here, imagine the possibilities.
I am a little dissapointed that there is no decent cheese or bread. The bakeries here pale in comparison to those in China and Europe.
Also, the prevelence of the spicy red paste in nearly every dish says a lot.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying I don't enjoy a good Korean meal from time to time, however, claiming it is the best in Asia or the World is a statement believed mainly by Korean's and Koreophiles.

For me, it's how well the food goes with the soju.

I once met a wise Korean born near Vladivostok Russia on a ferry from Sokcho to Vladivostok.

Offered him a bottle of soju, he refused such an 'un pure' un distilled liquor and produced a fine bottle of (Swedish) vodka.

Soju goes great with anything that hides its taste and nullify's its after taste. Such as various kimchi's and Sashimi.

Naturally I prefer vodka and pickeled vegetables, or smoked herring. But thats just me.

gakduki, I think you are taking asmith a bit literally. Having read a few of his posts, he is a bit of jokester with tongue in cheek expression.

my favorite has to be octopus and squid. So tasty.

And the scent of dried squid being heated up for delicious consumption is heavenly.

Don't get me wrong, I know this guy too. I can write pages and pages about Korean food. I eat it everyday for lunch in the cafeteria. Not just the quality stuff they serve in the restaurants. The real deal.

Nothing makes my mouth water more than seaweed with fishbone soup. Spicy squid stew, anchovey sidedishes, low quality kimchi, leftovers from a time long forgotten, and sticky rice for oh, the 200th time in a row.

The only thing I like about those meals, is that they make all the others taste even better.
