As my girlfriend is Chinese and has a mainland Chinese passport, she can enter Jeju-do without a visa, but needs a visa for the Korean mainland. However, what is there stopping her from taking the boat to the mainland? Is there passport control between Jeju-do and the mainland like there is between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland? If she also flies out from Jeju-do, can she do this, even if it is technically illegal? |

My Dad and I took the ferry to Jeju from Mokpo last October (we're both Canadian.)
I don't think we were checked on the way there, but leaving Jeju my Dad had to show his passport and I had to show my alien card. I'm assuming it's the same at Jeju airport. |

Thank you, Enigma. So, it seems that my girlfriend won't just be able to sneak onto the mainland without a visa and sneak back again. That's a real shame. It sounds as though I'll need to go to Jeju-do to meet her each and every time. |

Our passports got checked when we flew into the island from Daegu. Other than that is was easy to come and go. This was about two years ago. |
