The one-year warranty you get with a new Mac is good internationally. If you want to extend it for two more years under the AppleCare plan, that warranty is only good in the country you purchase it. However, you can buy the extended plan at any time during the first year of ownership.
So if you buy a Mac in Korea, then move to another country, you can buy the extended warranty there (provided you're going to stay there to make use of it, or will be sellling the computer to somebody there). |

You'll get more options too. Apple has a small presence in Korea, so you don't quite get the full service/selection range you'll find in other countries. That's part of the reason I bought my new iBook in Japan instead of here.
Are you planning on coming back to Korea? Just keep the location-specific terms of the extended warranty in mind if you are. I haven't bought the warranty for my iBook yet, but will be doing so when I move to Japan at the end of this year.
I think the AppleCare plan should be international. I'm not sure why it isn't. |

I spoke to an Apple employee at the L.A. Apple Store about the warranty and was told that the $350 warranty is international. That's one of the primary reasons why I got the laptop. If major service is required while in Korea, Apple will ship the laptop to the Apple Store in Japan according to another Apple employee. Japan is the only other country that has an Apple Store; the others like the ones in Korea are just shops. |

Has anyone ever heard of a company switching to an all-Mac workplace due to security concerns? |

That's good to know. I wasn't aware that it had changed (or maybe I've just been uninformed all these years). The factsheet PDF says "global repair coverage for portable computers."
SWEET! |

Costs and compatibility difficulties far outweigh the advantages.
Sure, you can make them work if you do yadda, yadda, yadda.. BUT...
If MACs were cheaper, I bet there would be a lot more interest in them. I've worked on both platforms extensively, and some things I prefer on the MAC, but it's an IBM Compatible world out there.
I always preferred doing my graphics work on the MAC. |
