Hello everyone!

I'd like to get better at Korean. I can already speak it at a basic level and I'm able to conjugate past and future tenses. I can also use if, because and a few other modifiers... but I want to be conversational. My issue is that I live just outside of Seoul and I don't want to travel 45 minutes into Seoul (and 45 minutes back) for a one hour class.

I live in Hanam city, near Guri... just east of Jamsil.

So, how can I go about finding a place to learn Korean? Are there any websites that list schools? Do you know of any? Would a private tutor be a better option? How would I set that up?

My hope would be 2 or 3 one hour classes a week. The focus would be on conversation. I want to do this with a Korean teacher who can explain things in English.

Seems like your best bet would be to get a private tutor in Korean, especially since you know what you want. Most classes focus on a "한국어" only setting, which means things won't be explained in English.

Do you know where I could find a private tutor? Are there listings? I'd want someone reputable... someone who understands how to teach a language. Are there websites?

네이버 가페? maybe u could find college students with education majors for cheap hourly rates on 과외천국 or whatever.

I recommend Stephen Revere's book SURVIVAL KOREAN. You can also download old Lets Speak Korean videos from bittorrent. Then fill in the gaps by watching k-drama videos on youtube or mysoju.com

However, the surefire way to learn the language is to shun contact with foreigners and expats who whine over beers in Itaewon. Try to speak to dry cleaner, take cabs and go shopping and speak to the older sales clerks in Korean. That will force you to learn the language right quick^^
