|

Ok, so some have said DO-IT, and some have said STU-PID, so I'm just trying to figure out if I can AFFORD-IT
I might come to Korea in a week or 2 to try to land a better job in person, or at least get in-person confirmation that the first school hiring me is really going to let me teach a 2nd job legally.
I've taught in korea before, and stayed at love motels (I mean... who hasn't?
but it's been a few years, and I'm wondering, if I need a love motel somewhere close enough to downtown seoul that I can easily take a subway to scout jobs in central Seoul, how cheap can I get one? Do they do weekly rates? and where would that cheapest motel likely be?
Obviously I could stay in the boondocks, but I'm imagining networking at foreigner bars is going to be one of my better bets, so I need a place that is at max... 45 mins from Seoul Tower via subway/bus? (yes, yes, I know Seoul Tower is not in Gangnam, but I'm going to be hounding the entire town)
Just wondering how much I might be spending... I remember staying at some for 30,000 in Jeonju/Daejeon circa 2007, but it's been a while, and I remember not EVER being able to find one for less than 40,000 in Daegu one fateful night... anyway, what's my best bet?
I don't care if it's in the seediest part of town, I have friends who can take care of my valuables, I just need a place with a private shower and something soft to flop on for a few hours each night.
(that sounds wrong, I need a shower and a bed/floor mattress)
thanks! |

I think they bottom out at 25,000. Cleanliness not provided.
Just avoid any new-ish looking building.
The staff probably won't understand what you want (unless you have great Korean skills). Koreans never stay in these places more than 5-6 hours.
How important is a private shower? If you don't mind sharing a communal bathroom, then it might be better to pay for a month in a goshiwon. 350,000-ish.
Smaller rooms and no private bathroom, but you'll have cooking facilities and much better security and less screaming at night....... |
