|
|
Hi guys! First time posting!
I'm working with a recruiter called HandS Korea. So far they've been very helpful and have found both a public grade school position for me, and a potential one at a hagwon should I prefer. (I don't speak any Korean, so I expressed concern at being a burden at a public grade school.)
For whatever reason, the search feature doesn't work for me. I believe it's timing out; I've been trying for three days, with no luck, so I apologize if this is redundant!
The hagwon appears to have multiple names, which is making me wary. My recruiter called it "Global Private Language Academy", the information sheet sent to me calls it "Global Academy", the photos in the information sheet display the name "Global Language Institute", and the website here: http://www.asglobal.kr/ seems to call it just "Global".
I'm sure you can understand my hesitance.
Does anyone have any personal experiences with this school? Or even what the name actually is?
Thanks![/url] |

Hey, I am in the exact same position with the same recruiting agency and I have been searching the forum for information and it seems that Global Academy is some kind of larger corporation with schools in different cities and that Global Language Institute is the name for the school in Ansan.
If you search for Global Language Institute in Gumi there is a thread about it; mainly saying that it's awful in Gumi, but that may just be one person's opinion.
If you find anything else out about it though respond to me because I would really like some more information too. |

in lieu of using the search function, do this:
1) go to google
2) type: site:http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea [your search term - not in brackets] |

The name of that school (translated from Korean) is "Ansan Global Language Hagwon"
Ansan is the area, and Hagwon is a korean word which is often translated as "Academy" or "Institute".
So really, could be a different people translating each document resulting in the confusion.
School's with the name "Global" in them, are like dogs called rover. There are hundreds of them all over the place (and not necessarily franchised, or belonging to the same group). While one may be great and look after you, another may bite you.
Unless you can find someone who worked at that specific school, you may just find yourself rolling the dice... |

I talked with my recruiter more; this particular school is one of three owned by the same headmaster. This one, as you guys helpfully indicated (THANK YOU!) is in Ansan. They've been working with this particular headmaster for several years, and his school has been in practice for over 10, so it looks like it's checking out.
I did find someone who worked at a school with a similar name, but not in Ansan. He didn't recommend it, to say the least, but it sounds like it's a different school.
In any event, I have an interview with them, so! Thanks for your help/advice! |

I have heard a few dodgy rumours about that school.
I met a couple of people who have said some bad things about it.
I dont really know the details but heard of one or two people who have had bad experiences there and i heard the boss can't be trusted. |

Good luck with this school.
I was suddenly fired from there shortly before completing my contract and lost my severance pay and my flight home.
It is badly run.
Most teachers don't seem to last too long there. |

| To put it simply, 90% of the hagwon's are not legitimate. The instructors teaching the classes may well be legitimate..but the owners..90% of them, no. Too many bad things happen at most when it comes to pay, classes, materials, housing, etc. |
