what a collosal monument to stupidity, its going to make traffic worse as the number of lanes has been reduced, its going to be a focal point for more demonstrations and its a waste of natural resources with all that water being used.

this from the same people who brought you the redoing of the hangang park with the fountains from the banpo bridge and the tearing up of all the green space

way to go guys Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

"...showcasing the capital's six-century history."

Hmmm... I'm thinking Seoul has been around for a lot longer than 600 years. Or do they mean as the capital?

Prior to 1945 and the division, Seoul was the capital of "Korea."

Following the 1945 division of the country, there appeared two capitals, whose political choice depended on choosing the South or North's answer.

Seoul is the capital of South Korea.

Believe it or not, according to the South Korean Constitution, Seoul is also the capital of North Korea.

Vice-versa, the North Korean Constitution claims Pyongyang is the Capital of both North and South Korea.

The South Korean Government has previously stated that when the 2 Koreas are united once again, that Seoul shall remain the capital.

The North Korean Government has also previously stated that when the 2 Koreas are united once again, that Pyongyang shall be the capital for the "Democratic Confederal Republic of Koryo" which is the North Korean name of the new, future united Korea.

If this is a small first step towards reducing the traffic congestion and number of vehicles, then I welcome it with arms wide open.

More parks, less cars. Ideal.

Socks,

Thanks for the recent history lesson, but I'm thinking about prior to six centuries ago... and am surprised a K-newspaper would publish an article that states Seoul has only a six-hundred year history.

I see, that's the big cluster**** they've been working on over by the US Embassy. What a nightmare it's been. Whoever came up with that idea ought to be shot.

Seoul was called Hansung before it became Seoul. I am not sure how long it's been the capital.

It is a nice looking place, but I also worry about protests taking it over. Being so close to the blue house, I can see that happening almost every weekend.

I think it looks pretty good. This is the center of Seoul and it deserves more than a 16 lane congested highway going through it. In fact, Seoul would look a lot better, if some of the city's roads were narrowed and the urban environment made more comfortable for pedestrians and cyclists.

there were trees running down the middle and it opened up the road..

I dont see why they had to make it so god damn big!

half its size would of been fine.. now it seems just TOO BIG! over sized
the buses look like they are squeezed for room..

you guys here about NO CAR DAY? september 22nd or 5th or something like that, all cars are not allowed in that area... they want people to use public transport that day hahahahahahahah stay away from the buses and subways those days guys... wonder what happens with the delivery trucks?

I went today. Had a very good time. Yes there were a lot of people, but they were all having a good time. Kids were going nuts in the fountains and I was impressed with the whole thing. The huge flower garden was real nice also. Aside from the sudden rain storm, it was a good time. In a few weeks, Koreans will get their fill of it and it will be more accessible.
