Is anyone else having this problem or had this situtation before? Right now the whole school is a mess and my Summer Camp started yesterday. Construction will ensue until my camp is over. This means, I am without my usual 'English Zone" classroom, without a computer, without AirCon, without a TV, pretty much fresh out of resources that I had planned on having. My lessons were structured heavily around the computer with PPTs, Movies, etc. I managed to pull yesterday out of my ass but I have no idea what to do today. My lesson plan is on my school computer...which seemed to have disappeared and replaced with cigarette butts left by the workers.

Its Korea, its always random, but this is a big WTF moment.

Any advice? Fun games? I planned on doing a scavenger hunt today so that can take up some time...but watching the Goonies is probably out of the question

what did you find out about this?

Logic would dictate the school would have told you about it, but given how the schools and logic parted ways some time ago, at least at my school, Im not surprised.... my ele. school did massive reconstructions without actually telling me about them... but that's the least of my problems at it.

anyway, what room are you using? I imagine theyre at least letting you use SOME other teacher's room. If so, you should have access to some of their AV equipment.

I found out about this at 8:35 AM yesterday when I got to my room. All of my furniture had been taken out of my room and "placed" in the hallway. No Logic At All.

AV..no, everything has been removed from each of the rooms. Like, it looks like someone came in and stole everything. I will try to use the TV today but I dont think we have a standalone DVD player. Doubtful.

I just bring my own dvd player to school and find a t.v. because sometimes the internet is down.

This summer, a huge influx of money has been dumped into the public schools to replace windows. Every public school I've been near seems to be pulling out the windows and replacing them. This will be a good thing once winter hits.

Perhaps they are reacting to the latest Korean educational controversy: 98% of schools found to have asbestos used in the buildings.

Something like that happened to me a few years ago. I had a word with the vice principal, and very politely explained that if they wanted me to stick with the lesson plans that I'd submitted and they'd approved, then I'd need the necessary materials in the classroom.

Send all the kids home and the v.p. you can't teach in a construction zone.

for some reason, stories like this remind me of an old episode of Star trek: the next gen. these dopey aliens kidnap the head engineer, Geordi, and tell him to fix their ship, even though they dont know how it regularly works. they just steal technology and act like pirates....

so they say to him, "You will make it go...." Evil or Very Mad

ugh... "to seek out new life, and new civilizations... to boldly go where no English has gone before!" this may become my new philosophy in life... Wink

Yea we have it...I read the label on one of the cords "ASBETOS." Kinda freaked me out.
@cruisemonkey
I should, they gave me another classroom to teach in...which has nothing in it. Not even lights or a working clock
@peppermint
Agreed. I planned this whole thing out and what a waste that was. I'm sad to say that I am not trying anymore. I go to school and I think about my plan for the day for 3 minutes and then just waste as much time as possible.
@bassexpander
We are replacing...everything but the windows? I dont even know what they are doing besides smoking in my room and taking naps on my classroom furniture.
@D.D.
Maybe I can find a way to bring my TV from home also

Todays lesson was...somewhat a failure. Tomorrow should be good. We are making cereal, spaghetti, and fruit salad...I will get by....maybe...that will alow me to bypass lunch
