So...
Is the test given upon entrance to the country a urinalysis? Or do they do blood/hair etc. Furthermore, does anyone know the cutoff they use for canniboids (i.e. 50ng/mL)?

You have a couple months to get it done once you get your visa. The sooner the better, generally. This is also legal--your boss may pressure you into doing it right away, or simply put you in a car and take you there.

I'd stop smoking at least a month before going. It's a urine test.

for christs sake! another drug test thread?!?!?!?!?!!

people: use the search function. or at least click past the first page of posts. this is 3rd one in the last 4 days.

im getting sick of this. imagine if someone from one of the foreigner hating newspapers or gov't offices was reading these. all that would jump out at them are the multiple posts asking about "drug tests". use ur head man.

u know what, i hope they radically change the drug testing policy. i hope they test u a week before u leave, the day u leave, twice on the plane coming here, as soon as u get off the plane, and once a month thereafter till the end of ur contract. that way we can just beat it into everybodys head, if u like to toke up, korea is not the place for u. doesnt mean ur a bad person, just means they dont put up with that stuff here and thats not the kind of people they want.

with this sudden influx of newbies coming over (seems like theres just been an unholy amount of them lately) i'll bet anyone ship man won that we start reading about a handful or more new english teachers being deported or arrested for either failed drug tests or ignorant stunts like trying to get pot mailed to them or snuck in.

g*ddamn people, if u cant get clean enough to not worry about it, then perhaps u should seriously think twice before coming over.

First of all, I agree with you. But I just gotta know. Are you more mad because of the drug question, or the fact that nobody wants to look at the past 2 days of posts to see if their question was already asked? Or a little of both? You gotta admit, this one is a little different. It's the first one I've seen where they want the specific cut off point for drugs....

id say its 50/50.

not taking the time to just read through a few posts to find what ur looking for just smacks of laziness. like the whole forum is supposed to come running to them to provide an answer for what it is they want. and if u look at the last page or so, every other one it seems like is about drug tests or how easy is it to bed down korean chicks. (all of these ive noted, r by people not even here yet). it just makes the whole forum look bad i think. more and more koreans have begun reading this, ever since that evil witch at the cho sun ilbo started printing trash about the foreigners that visit dave's. the environment for waegooks has already taken a steep down turn in the last year or two, and not much on this site seems to be helping that at all.

also, even if u were completely ignorant about the concept of teaching english in korea (as i was about a month before i came over way back when) it takes about 5 mins through a google search to learn that this country has an absolute-zero-tolerance-policy on dope of any kind. u can find that info through several reliable sources. that should tell people right then and there, "if i dont have the will power to punt down this blunt well enough in advance to know im good, perhaps korea is not the place for me". .. because every time a foreigner gets busted for a failed drug test, or having some mailed to him, or like those dumbarses a few months ago that were growing it in their house, it brings a whole poop storm on everyone else. suddenly moms get upset and suspicious and forces the school to put everyone through pointless meetings and ad hoc interrogations and even the entire staff at some schools to go piss in a cup. hundreds or thousands of honest hard working people get put through the ringer and suspicion gets laid on them for the ignorant actions of a few.

alright

ein07912 - don't be a whiner. I read the posts. they are predominately comments from people with nothing to say but grip (like you), so shut up. i am hoping that someone with an actual understanding of the chemistry and logistics behind the way that the testing is done can provide some useful information as to the methods and standards used for testing in korea. i know that there is a zero tolerance policy, i have quit smoking weed, and i dont care about your defensive sardonic complaints. my question is if anyone out there knows anything specific about they way tests are done. for example, there are conflicting statements on the previous posts as to whether or not they test for canniboids, anyone know for sure? secondly, if they do test, do they use the same standards as we use in the states (i.e. 50ng/mL) if you can't answer the question intelligently, shut up. it seems easier that way. furthermore, this will prevent the "making the forum look bad" that you reference. lastly, of course those of us who aren't in the country yet are the ones asking questions about how the country works. you on your high horse with all your knowledge already "know," and if you can't provide any details or even moderately helpful information, once again, shut up. so, to those of you out there with half a brain...any real details you can share?

The thing I don't understand about pot is how people always claim it's so nonaddictive. I'm sure some people it's true, just like some people can put down cigarettes for months, or only smoke at parties. But look at other people. Some people are trying to figure out the very last moment they can smoke before they have to give it up to pass a drug test.

Then you have another level. You go to a foreign country with no tolerance for even the "weak" drugs. You know if you get caught, you will lose money, your job, your girlfriend, your apartment, your visa, and more likely than not spend time in jail. And it's not like you can keep it a secret even if you smoke by yourself, you have to buy it from someone, and people tattle on eatch other. So, if it's not addictive, why risk everything for a "buzz" that you could probably get from a beer or two?

if u quit smoking weed, then why do u care how they test? all ur "shut up's" are just ur scared and nervous defense mechanisms kicking in.

It's simple if you have anything to worry about you shouldn't be coming. The last thing we need here is druggies. Thailand would be more fun for you.

I will be coming to Korea in September for my first job. I am part of this sudden influx of "newbies" and I really do not want to be generalized into the category of the white foreign male whose only concerns are to sleep with as many Korean women as possible and find a way to beat the drug test. My main concern is to enjoy living in a new culture and be good at an interesting and hopefully very rewarding job and live experience.

I agree.

The OP was asking a very very specific number for the canniboids background (50ng/mL). When people ask a question like that you can only assume they are trying to find out the absolute final day to stop doing drugs (rather than stopping 30 or 60 days before). Questions about the specific chemistry of the drugs test could also lead some people (and I am not accusing the OP) of trying to tamper or beat the test.

I do not care whether or not people do drugs. That is your decision and I try not to judge. Like one of the other posters said, if you cannot change your lifestyle leading up to and during your contract, then go to a place like Thailand or another country where there is a more liberal drug policy.

I can only hope that this sudden influx of "newbies" does not bring bad habits and bad reputation to the ESL crowd in Korea. We'll see and best of luck to all of those who are trying to make their way over for the first time like me (and if you do drugs, stop today or at least 60 days before you come just to be safe -- or don't bother applying).

Interesting topic of conversation last night over a beer with a fellow Dave's old timer: Schadenfreude. Every year, just a couple of months after the newbie influx, there's a drug bust. It's all over the news, dave's has a long thread about them, everybody gives their opinions for and against, good drama, we're looking forward to it every year. Life in Korea. Gotta love it.

Apologize for hijacking your thread OP, good luck with your tests. Have you considered Urine Substitution?

I remember people using this method with a very high rate of success when I worked for a well known high tech company in IT back in the states. Worked like a charm.

What happens if the test comes back positive for a pregnancy?
If the test was for a guy, he would have alot of explaining to do.
