I was informed by my co-teacher that the landlord called her to say my next door neighbor was complaining that I do not leave my sliding door open to my apartment and being the patio ceiling has a plastic roof there is a space from the top of the wall and ceiling that seperates the two apts which air flows through. The apt next door is very hot and causes them to complain to the landlord. We are located on the very top floor(4). I run my a/c at night and when I leave in the morning I shut it off. This keeps my apt cool, especially when I come back after 8 hours the apt is still cool. Do you think it is unreasonable to say no to the landlord. My thinking was I would explain the situation to him and say I will give it a try and if it gets to hot close the door again. |

It might just be me but I have no idea what you are trying to say. Can you try again?
Are you trying to say the landlord and your neighbour believe it is your responsibililty to leave your door/window open to provide heat relief for another tenant? If so, it doesn't seem reasonable to me.
It's your apartment. Close or shut your own doors/windows as you deem necessary. If a tenant's apartment is too hot they should buy an airconditioner or some bloody fans. |

Something is NOT right here...
Your neighbour wants you to leave your patio door open???
there is a space between the two apartments from your patio where the air flows from your apartment into the neighbours apartment???
Your neighbour is VERY unreasonable...
Either your neighbour wants to break into your apartment whilst you are not at home (or whilst you are there to do some terrible thing to you)
or
Your neighbour wants all your "cool aircon air" to flow into the neighbours apartment - so they can save on electricity
I would tell the neighbour to "Get lost!"
Its obviously a school-provided apartment as the neighbour phoned your co-teacher and if it is not - then why on earth your neighbour has your co-teachers phone number surprises me -
but its not in your school contract that you must "Leave the patio doors of your apartment open during summer just to benefit your neighbour"
so don't do it...
in fact - why not leave it open during WINTER - just to piss your neighbour off when the cold air flows into their apartment via the space in the wall connecting your apartments... |

Yes, she's being unreasonable. You can't outright say no because she is your neighbour and can afterall, orchestrate things to be uncomfortable while you live there.
Tell your school to tell the landlord that you can't leave the patio door open because you are highly allergic to dusk and need to prevent it from entering your home as much as possible. Everyone will know it is a lie, but it's the way to save face. |

I have found that in Korea people just pass the problem to others, just to appease and say, "i tried."
So, what happened is (I guess) that the neighbor said something to the landlord and the landlord, to keep the renter feeling happy, contacted your school, and your school, just to keep the landlord happy asked you. Nobody, including the landlord or the school expect you to say yes. They are just covering themselves, playing the "get along nice" game whichi ALWAYS about making good relationships and procuring favors.
If you say, Hell no!, the school and landlord would not expect anything different. If you said, Ok, I'll try, they would shrudge their shoulders and think, "What a strange foreigner" or worse "What a sap".
Say, "no" and be done with it. |

For me it's the opposite problem. I find myself highly allergic to dawn. |

Yeah I agree with others.
I think there was either there is a misunderstanding or something is not right here.
Ok I can understand if your neighbor wanted you to close your OUTSIDE window because your patios are connected, she wouldnt want the cool air to leave the building.
She wants you open your patio door, which leads to the balcony so that the cool air is circulated up to her apartment?
Also, how does closing your patio door make her apartment any hotter? it doesnt
Either way, the patio door has NOTHING to do with her. Its only the outside window from the balacony she could reasonably assert there is a problem. Even then thats your own business.
Explain to co-teacher to tell the landlord that her reasons dont make any sense. There is no way that not opening your patio door would make her apartment any hotter. And if you do, you would be losing a LOT of money on the AC needed to cool the balacony and a lot of that would be leaking outside. Its inefficent and stupid. |
