I have to get my cat a rabies test in order to export her to Taiwan. There are only 2 places according to my vet, who speaks minimal English, to have this done. One in Seoul, and one in Daejon. Fine, only thing is I would like to call them ahead of time before I travel 4 hours and show up on their doorstep.
My vet gave me the websites to both places, and either I don't know how to dial a phone, or none of the numbers on either of the sites are working Korean #s. Am I missing something here? I tried dialing ALL of the numbers provided on both sites, and NONE of them work. I can't find an email address in the Seoul facility, nothing. WTF, is there some secret to dialing Korean #s I don't know about. Would the SK national vet quarantine service list bogus #s on its website. Please, any explanation would be helpful. Perhaps I am just mildly retarded and have been spoiled all my life in a country that lists working phone #s and contact info for important national organizations.
Here are the 2 sites:

Nicam, are you sure you need a rabies TEST, and not just an up-to-date shot and vet certificate? As in something your vet can do? |

Yeah I'm sure. Taiwan is one of the few rabies-free countries, and along with a mandatory 21 day quarantine for all animals coming from rabies infected countries, a rabies test must be performed 30 days after the rabies vaccination is given in order to give the animal time to develop the antibodies. This test must be conducted no less than 6 months and no more than one year prior to importation into Taiwan.
I actually found this out much to late, not expecting Taiwan to be rabies-free, and now she has to stay here with my friends for 6 months in order for the required amount of time to pass before I can bring her to Taiwan.
Might as well move her to the UK after this just because I can (I had always ruled out moving to Europe, where I have family, from the US because of the rabies quarantine thing). Sheesh. |
