Do you know the phone number to call to see if the blue paper is ready?
My new school admits they don't know squat about the process after turning in the documents (I've been through this before, so I know more than nothing, anyway).
I just want to save myself a trip to the Omokyo office.
Also, do they speak English at that number? Thanks. |

Maybe this is the right number:

In Korea, the Immigration Bureau of the ROK Justice Ministry should be contacted for information regarding other types of visas and/or adjustment of visa status. You can learn more from the Immigration Bureau on-line. Their main Seoul office is located at #319-2, Shinjeong 6-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, telephone 02-650-6231 or 02-650-6234. |
Here's the page I found this from:

Never mind... I just tried those numbers, and a recording said that they aren't in service. |

Well, my blue paper is in, but I never found the number. I know it exists (at least it did last year) because my old boss used to check it. Didn't want to call him up to bug him about it, or else I might have found out.
As a side note... these Korean immigrations web sites are a TOTAL JOKE. Have you seen the page where people can post questions? The get answered about once every three months -- as if that helps! The more I deal with Korean immigrations, the more I purely believe it's all about making it difficult so they can fine people.
When I leave this place, I'd like someone to translate an editorial I write to all of the newspapers I can find in Seoul. In the letter, I want to rip on immigrations about how poorly they handle things, and include mentions of how they busted, then bribed, my former school for money.
Wouldn't send it until I'm out of here, though. |

How long did it take from the time the office got your contract, diploma, etc. to the time you got your blue paper? Your paperwork was handled by the office near omokgyo, right?
My new employer says it takes a full two weeks, which makes a lot of inconvenience for me. I thought it only took one week. |

Took 7 days, including the weekend.
The office routinely tells people 2 weeks, but often finishes after 3 to 9 days. My current employer has had to wait 2 weeks for one once, though. |

Can I drop off the forms there myself to get the process started, or does my employer physically have to go there? Maybe I could just get the required documents from my employer and go there myself to save a day, if they are open Saturdays. Is the office open Saturdays? |

I believe the office is open on Saturday, but even if you could drop the papers off yourself, there are certain papers you need from your boss, and you'll have much better luck having him do it... guarenteed. |

In case anyone searches for this information in the future, I'd like to mention that I found the number for the Seoul Immigration Office on my current alien registration card!
My card says: (02)2650-6221.25.31
I first tried (02)2650-6221, and there was no answer. Then I later tried several times again and it was busy every time. It didn't immediately occur to me what the .25.31 meant, but I eventually realized these must be endings for alternate numbers. So I tried (02)2650-6225, and got through! The woman who answered didn't know the answer to my question and transfered me to another number, (02)2650-6236. At first there was no answer. I tried that number again several times, and each time it was either busy or there was no answer.
How annoying. |

You can certainly drop the papers off yourself, just make sure that all the paperwork is in order before you go and you have the correct fee. |

According to Seoul Immigration, their automated CCVI (Blue Paper) approval status system is down and they don't know when it will be in operation again. Until it is repaired, you can check status by calling: (02) 2650-6335 and for ARC (Alien Registration Card) pick availability: (02) 2650-6229 |
