|
|
Currently I'm living on the east coast of Canada. I have enough air miles to fly to pretty much any city in North America (excluding Hawaii and Alaska).
So it there any one city that has a cheaper rate for flying to Korea?
Simple logic tells me it would be somewhere on the west coast but I still thought I would ask.
-Thanks |

LAX: Asiana, Korean
NYC: Asiana, Korean
SFO: Asiana, Korean, Singapore Airlines, United
SEA: Asiana, Korean
ATL: Korean, Delta
If you are talking non-stop USA to Korea, then SFO theoretically would have the most choices.
If you include flights USA to Korea via one stop in Japan/China, then I would say LAX may well have more.
Then again if you go to SEA or YVR you may get a lower fare. |

Try China Air (Taiwan) from Vancouver to Taipei, then the following morning, take the short flight Taipei to Seoul. I flew over that way last October. Much better than I expected, & you get to have a hot shower & sleep in Taiwan, at a Golf Resort Hotel, before you're picked up at Incheon Airport, & without looking & feeling dishevelled, after a nonstop flight.
China Air are also about 30-40% cheaper than Korean Air. The motel is only about $100 Au extra. eg, from Australia I paid $1100 Au with China Air, but Korean Air was $1,700 Au o/w in April. |

FYI the Atlanta flights seem to have jumped a lot in price lately. OTOH, I noticed some air china flights to/from NYC for dirt cheap a while ago, with a layover in Beijing.
On balance, I would guess LAX would be the best bet, but hunt around. Kayak.com can be your friend. |

If you're in Nova Scotia or Newfoundland, fly Westjet to Vancouver, and then Air China (edit: China Air!) to Seoul. Good food, TVs on the seatbacks, and a generally underrated airline. It will be a lot of transferring on the way but that will be likely your best deal. Whatever you choose I would try to keep your flights within Canada in order to avoid paying the taxes of crossing the US border.
I loathe Air Canada so much I will not fly with them whatever the price.

OP
Be aware that Air China is mainland China, & flies to Beijing; & China Air is Taiwan based, & routes through Taipei. I've flown both, & the Taiwan airline is slightly better, imho. My Korean plastic suitcase, was smashed by Air China, upon arrival in Beijing. And the meals were not as good. I've never flown Air Canada, due to numerous horror stories on various travel bulletin boards. |

LAX has been the best for me. I use Asiana non-stop & its always been good when compared to U.S. flag carriers. Very good inflight service, TV on the seatbacks, 2 or 3 meals, never any lost bags, free snacks and beer/soft drinks. I ate and drank so much on my last flight that I'm surprised that they didn't ditch me over the Kamchatka peninsula. You may want to consider the 00:20 flight I think its flt #203 and choose a seat (isle preferably) at the far back of the plane #40-#42 near the toilets. It makes a 13 or 14 hour flight a tad bit more tolerable. |

I enjoyed my Air Canada flight over here (free drinks, okay food, great entertainment system) and you can get flights out of Vancouver for under $800 (+taxes). |

Back in the day (2002-2003), I was able to get one-ways from SFO for around 400 bucks. :sigh:
Anyway, I think SFO or LAX would be your best bet catman. |

Yeah, Air Canada sucks! I will be avoiding them from now on if I can. |

I can't recommend Singapore Airlines enough. Flown with them 5 times now back and forth from SFO, and they've always been excellent. One way tickets from Seoul to SFO were less than $900 for 2 people, girlfriend and myself. They have excellent meals in flight, tons of movies, and free drinks for the entire flight. Plus the Singapore stewardesses have very elegant outfits and they've always been very nice.
I've flown back to the U.S. on an American Carrier as well as a Chinese carrier and while I don't recall the exact companies I distinctly remember wishing I'd flown on Singapore Airlines. |

Yep, their website advertises the cheapest flights to Seoul from the US. Chicago, LA, and SFO for about $900. |

San Francisco to Seoul. . .$653!
http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_UK/content/local/US/promo_fares/index.jsp
Snap it up quick! This deal came to me via Kayak's weekly newsletter. Definitely worth signing up for these mailings as they often cue you in on great deals that are unavailable to everyone or not yet made 'public.'
Good luck getting here!
Anyone know anything about cheap ONE WAY tix back to the States from anywhere in SEAsia?! |
