so i'm an adoptee who would like to get the f-4 before leaving. i emailed my adoption agency about the family registry and adoption certificate stuff, and they said they would mail them - but they haven't arrived yet. happily, i discovered that i have a copy of my family registry and my adoption certificates from the county court from '87. i'd like to go ahead and get the paperwork done, but i've heard that these documents need to be recent and/or notarized in korea. . .? i've called the consulate once, and it was such a circus - people hanging up after they heard english, getting the touch-tone menu twice (with two different sets of options), on hold for 10 minutes, multiple transfers - that i'd really rather not if possible. does anyone know? |

it needs to be a recent one, as far as i know. i didn't have a recent copy of my 호적, but when i got to korea, a representative from the adoption agency went with me to the district office to get a new one, remove me from the registry, and also went to immigration with me to apply for the visa.
do you know which agency you're with? apparently G.O.A.L. (goal.or.kr) offers a similar service. it was a pretty painless process, did it all in one day and got my visa/a.r.c. the next week. |
