Hey everybody,

So I was happy to hear that SMOE has sent me my visa package. My recruiter informed me I needed the consulate to finalize the process. Since SMOE recruits don't need the interview, we've been told to just mail the documents in.

Problem: As my travel plans stand I won't be around to pick up that SMOE package until early Thursday. I was hoping I could just then take everything down to the LA Consulate down Wilshire, which seems like it would take care of the problem.

Does anyone know if the consulates will be fine with me dropping everything off in person? Would they just have me pick up the visa (if approved) in a few days? I'm going to give them a call first thing tomorrow morning, but figure you Davers might be able to offer some expertise...

Sure, you can go 'in person'.

Yep, you can go in person. Your visa will be ready to pick up after 10 a.m. the following day. Parking is free at the consulate in the adjacent lot; just make sure you stamp the ticket the parking attendant gives you at the visa counter. They leave the stamp out so you can stamp it yourself.

Also, my recruiter told me to bring my original degree, copy of my CBC, transcripts, etc to the consulate but all they actually wanted was my photo, application form, contract, notice of appointment and my money. Probably not a bad idea to bring your other docs, just in case. Oh, and the visa window is closed from 12 to 1 for lunch; of course, they don't tell you that. lol.

Thanks to both you. Yeah, the woman on the phone said they only needed those items, so I'm debating whether to walk on to campus and get that extra transcript now that you've confirmed it. Also, she did seem pretty sure.

And glad to hear they'll actually do it next day, I was beginning to worry I'd somehow hit the last hurdle in the whole process now that I actually got a visa number without having my diploma issued yet.
