I know you these questions are posted everywhere, but I can't find anything specific to this question. In the state of Illinois we have two options when ordering a state check. We can request a name and birthdate CBC or a fingerprint CBC. The name and birthdate is faster and costs less, but the fingerprint CBC is referred to as a vulnerable sector check. Which method should I use? I'm mainly asking because I already have my name and birthdate request in hand from a previous inquiry. Any advice would be helpful!

The vulnerable sector check is only necessary if you're Canadian.

I'm from PA and I had both options as well. I did a check based on my name / SS # etc., not fingerprints.

It was accepted no problem.

They want to see either a local, state, or national check. In my case the only option was state or national. State was cheap, quick, and easy.

What they don't want to see is some third party, online background check from some random site.

If you have the option of requesting a notarized check do it, bc it will need to be notarized so you can get it Apostilled.

So, it sounds like you may be able to use the one you already have provided it was within the last 6 months and you will be able to get it notarized.

I totally agree with llama, nowhere does it state that you need a fingerprint check. I've looked. I had two choices also. The fingerprints are more expensive and take a lot longer. I submitted the one without fingerprints (mainly due to time limits) and it was accepted no problem.

Thanks for your help guys. I did a name and birthday check through Illinois and received my CBC in just under 3 weeks. Only problem was that they only gave me a copy that wasn't notarized. I called back and they immediately offered to send me two notarized copies. Recruiter says these are completely acceptable. Only warning I have is that I read from another poster that they encountered difficulties with their background check having a web address printed across the bottom. They said the Korean government refused them because they felt it looked inauthentic. I would ask to have this removed.

Immigration removed the necessity for Canadians to get the VSS.

Also, just recently, meaning the past 2-3 weeks, they have made it mandatory for Americans to get a State or National Check. They no longer accept a county check.

I had teachers apply 1 week with the county check, and then the following week, a teacher from the same county, used the same background check, and it was refused. You might be able to get away with it with a few officers, but the rule was implemented.

Llama

When did you get yours? I came back over in January (I'm from PA, too) and all I got was a local check at the county courthouse. Have the laws changed?

I'm only asking now because I have two friends planning on coming over very soon and I told them just to get the local check.

First of all, love the name, hehehe.

Second, yes, the laws changed. You will hear some people say they just got there a few days ago and a local was fine, but it was based on an immigration officer who didn't really care. Now, I am sure your friends don't want to take that chance. They are rejecting people now who don't follow the new rules.
