My knuckle-bashingly slow typing skills are somewhat embarrassing. People stare at me armed with a handkerchief, waiting for the sputum to start draining from from my mouth. My gf goes away and makes a cup of tea in between responses on gmail chat. Yeah, they all think I'm retarded when I type Korean. Any tips on speeding up the phalanges?

When I was learning to type in Korean, I did it on my laptop computer without the stickers that showed the Korean letters. I had to memorize where the keys were and looking at the keyboard didn't help.

The only way to get better typing in Korean is to practice practice practice.

The thing is, the layout of the 한글 alphabet on the keyboard is very logical. All the vowels on the right, all the consonants on the left, with the double-able consonants on the top row, the unvoiced consonants on the bottom, and the others on the home row. Just keeping that in mind can really help.

The kids at my school are always using typing-practice programs, if nothing else you could do the same. A few weeks of practice on one of those could get you to a reasonable WPM fairly easily.

I just hit the keys in a random pattern and hope whatever I am saying is particularly insulting and offensive.

Go down to your local PC Bang and use Haansoft's Hangeul Office's typing tutor program.
