Immigration told my new boss (potential) that they would only accept state or FBI criminal checks.
I followed the information on the Korean Immigration website and I can only find this:
http://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/InfoDetailR_en.pt?categoryId=2&parentId=382&catSeq=385&showMenuId=374&visaId=E2
It says:
"Korean government requires a proof of criminal records issued by the relevant nations government for its citizens to use for any number of international activities, such as employment. It will accept records issued by the federal, provincial, state, local authorities."
That is dated May 26, 2009.
I cannot find any changes after that date, and I assume if such a big change was made, they would remove incorrect information and update it.
Doesn't "local authorities" mean NYC police?
Anyone have any idea what I can do now? An FBI check will take 4 weeks, at least. |

As of May 29, local checks are no good.
My FBI and state (Iowa) took 5 days. |

Yes, it is a recent change. Local checks are no longer accepted. You will need to get a state or federal check. The state check should be much faster than the FBI check. |
