|
I've read quite a few posts re: taxation on NSETs' salaries. I thought I'd compile here what I've gained for others to read as well as post some questions for SMOE veterans.
From what I've gathered, there are essentially three* hits to your monthly salary:
1. National Pension Plan (I pay 4.5%, my employer matches that; I get all of at the end of the year)
2. National Health Plan (I pay 9%, which covers half of any incurred medical cost--I pay the other half at the occurring times)
3. Income Tax (for 2 million won/month, it is 1.4%)
* = However, I will also incur a withdrawal of 500,000 won for my housing deposit that will be spread out/taken out in increments within 3 months.
Okay, now since I am an American in SMOE (a public school NSET), I am exempt from paying the Income Tax.
1. Does this mean I am automatically exempt from the income tax?
2. Or, do I have to provide the IRS Residency Certificate in order to be exempt?
3. Does having an E-2 or F-4 visa change the situation in terms of paying taxes? |
