|

I just had KT attempt to hook up cable tv, when I was informed by the english speaking associate that I can not get the menu lineup in English. I have no problem with History channel, National Geo and CNN. They have their lineup in English. When I asked the associate(which told me the opposite of the first one I signed up with) do I have to watch tv 24 hours to find out what American shows are broadcasted here and what time, her answer was yes. I told them to take it back. I will now get to my point Does anyone know of any cable service(even renting a satellite) that has a menu offered in English on the tv or on paper that may show the time of the American shows when they are broadcasted? I do not care if it is only 4 shows offered. I tried to view my shows on the American netwoeks, but they were all blacked out. Big brother |

No. I don't think any cable or satellite provider translates their whole program lineup into English.
You have to remember that English-only speakers in Korea make up less than 0.01% of the population. |

So, you are telling me there is nothing on the internet that has that individual cable networks lineup of their american shows and when they are broadcasted. |

I think the daily lines ups for the English channels are printed in the Korea Herald. Check there. |

Just download your favorite TV shows. Isohunt and other sites are your friends for TV from back home. |

Cable networks seem to change their schedules so often it is annoying. For example, I got used to watching "Iron Chef America" every night at 9 on Q Channel, then they changed it. Now they play something else.
My advice is to get a service that has an on-screen programming guide and learn to read Korean. |

well, theres not a whole lot of english on tv anyways, because, well u guessed it, this is korea.
u can find the programming schedule on the tv channels web site, but, its all gonna be in korean. because, well, this is korea. they dont really speak english here.
secondly, if u got cnn, national geo, and history channel (never heard that one in english though) all in english, thats as about as good as ur gonna get. sure, other providers will get u Arirang news (korean news in english) and AFN (the us military channel that plays stuff from back home) but its hardly worth it. OCN, Super Action, and the other standard movie channels all cable providers carry play a lot of english movies, and usually, thats the only thing on worth watching.
OP, man, i dont think u realize yet that u have just moved to the other side of the planet. this is not america anymore. theyre not going to have everything america did (bed sheets included). most of the stuff is going to be in korean and be made for the 99.99% of the population that speak korean and r mostly korean. ur life is not going to be the same as it was before, not matter how hard u try. u should embrace the change, rather than fight it and set up ur own little american world while ur here.
just as an example: i changed apartments 2 years ago and got a new cable provider and a brand new tv. i turned it on to watch the olympics a year ago, and aside from the occasional dvd with my girlfriend(s) it never gets turned on. because im out enjoying my life here and am busy doing things with people that dont involve tv watching all day. but if u just have to have some english programming, just get it online. u can download it from p2p sites or torrents. u can find it streaming online from a million places. or u can buy the entire season or serious of the most popular shows from the guys that sell dvd's on the street corner.... which reminds me, i need to go pick up season 5 of the office soon..... |
