Hi,
My brother just got married and I was thinking that best way for them to save some money is to go abroad and get a good, well paid job (as I did).

But they are young, not have so much experience. So I was thinking maybe Korea? He is doing on-line course, so is not really ready to work for at least one year. But his wife have double degree. One is English Litereature (second one in Russian), and at the moment she is finishing her Phd.

I heard somewhere that if you finished English studies you might be able to get job as English teacher abroad. Is it possible/legal in Korea? Her English is very good (much(!) better then mine), she was teaching it in the country where she is from (Armenia) and on top of the English she speaks fluently Armenian, Russian and Polish.

We called Korean Embassy and they said that E2 visa is possible if she will find school that want to hire her, but is just hard to believe... is it that easy?

Cheers
Tomek

Last time I checked they only accepted passports from native English speaking countries. If her passport is not from UK, Canada, USA, Aus, New Zealand, South Africa, she cannot get an E2.

Correct. From the immigration website....

Quote:
-Qualification: Natives of teh country whose mother language is the one they are teaching. In addition, they must have acquired a bachelor's degree or higher from that country.

So, even if I'm a native speaker, if I go to.... Spain and get my degree, it wouldn't qualify. Or, if I'm from Spain and get my degree in America, I still don't qualify.

This is from the immigration website about E2 visas http://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/InfoDetailR_en.pt

It may be better for her to try and get an E1, but I'm still not sure if she'll be able to teach English on it. The E1 is more for those with Masters or a Phd seeking a job at a university.
Quote:

o Foreigners qualified by the higher education Act, that are seeking to give lectures or conduct a study in an educational facilities.
- Professor at the academic organization such as KAIST
- Full-time lecturers or a professors that are hired by the educational facilities
- Professors that are specified in a certain field at the university/college or laboratory attached to the university/college

She could consider teaching Russian, but I'm unsure what kind of pay she should expect. Maybe less than teaching English. Out of interest are you and your brother Armenian?

Without a doubt. I know there are people interested in learning Russian in Korea, but I don't know about the supply and demand.

If not, they could try China, the visa standards are more relaxed.

Thank you for all answers.

Regarding to your question, nope, me and my brother are Polish. My wife is Korean, that is why we got this idea. Smile

Koreans will study anything if it'll give them a chance of getting a job overseas. Korean chaebols are heavily invested in Khabarovsk, Amur region, there's sure to be demand for russlish. Not much for Polska, at the last count there were 114 Koreans living in Poland.

Forget about it!!! Try any other place besides korea. Boat loads of people are coming over from Canada and the US now. Why hire someone from Armenia? I dont think you would have a chance anyhow.

A very limited phrasebook would probably suffice.

It says that the temporary ban works on honour system. They haven't put you on cyber-shackles. It's up to you to control yourself. Contact the mod team and clarify the situation.
