I want to at least attempt to identify with my students (I'll be teaching elementary school).

What are the pop groups/songs that I should know so that I can impress my students with my hip knowledge of Korean music and choreography?

According to the GEPIK info-sheet.
K-Pop: Big-Bang, DBSK/TVXQ, Super Junior, SHINee, SS501, FT Island, Wondergirls, Jewelery, Girls, Generation, Kara, 2PM
Singers:
Rain, BoA, Lee Hyon, Uhm Jung Hwa, Se7ven, Hwee Seong
Groups
Clazziquai, Nell
Rap/Hip-Hop
Mc Mong, Epik High, Drunken Tiger, Crown J, Dynamic Duo

Foreign artists:
Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Michael Jackson, Zack Efron, Marron 5, Muse, Avril Lavigne

Korean students prefer Korean artists (call it familiarity of language, jingoism, nationalism, but they just do). I show them three versions, Baby One more Time by Jewelery, and then In Grid (English) and then Encore en fois. Of course they liked Jewelery best. Hmm.

I've made lots of karaoke songs of Korean singers, both singing in Korean (with the English translation) and those Koreans singing in English (there are many). Just go to the Karaoke page or Kool Karaoke video page on EFL Classroom.

Also, many playlists and other things about Korean music. Click Korea in This Word Cloud to get there.

Great stuff to use with Korean students and I'm a big cheerleader of culturally specific content for all levels/ages of students.

These playlists will also get your knowledgeable about Korean music.

Every time I go a page with your poster, Windows Vista takes me to a warning screen. I don't think you up to no-good, but it is getting annoying. Do any other Vista users have similar problem?

Andrew,

Yes, there was a problem but should be alright now. Too complicated to get into but there was no danger for any user. Part of the growing pains of being a popular site with lots of traffic - you get others wanting part of the action without paying.

All fixed. If it persists let me know -- but clear your browser cache too . (go to Tools, clear private data / delete browsing history-temp files).

New splash page coming which will be helpful/nicer.

Cheers,

David

You can keep up to date with Korea's top song / bands by following their weekly top-10.

Ummmmm... how about that korean band with the group of fellas who look like girls... you know, the boys with the earings and make up and feminine hair styles...

they dance in unison (like those western boy bands such as.. what was that western band with the group of fellas who look like girls... you know, the boys with the earings and make up and feminine hair styles... That band) and sing irritating sugary songs.

Damn...what IS that band called?

There is also that girl singer. Whats her name?? She's cute and wears short skirts and has a pretty nice S-line. She dances too but not sure if she can really sing. She's pretty popular as well. No not HER!! She's not as popular anymore. I mean the other one......
