I have a job in Pyeongchang dong , Seoul, and I was wondering what to expect when I get there. How far is it from downtown Seoul? How is the nightlife? What are the people like?

I know, lot's of really general questions, but if anyone who has been there/worked there has any feedback, it would be greatly appreciated.

I think that's a really exclusive expensive area north of Gyeongbuk palace and close to mountains. There's no subway you have to catch a bus there from the subway.

Old timers' rich area. Pretty close to the 'old' down town and points from there. Like previous poster mentioned, you'll have to take buses often.

Lots of Koreans start their Bukhansan mountain hike from up in that neighborhood.

Odds are you'll be hiking up to your apartment and/or school, too. Nice place to be if you have a 3000 sq.ft. house, a car, and a driver. Not so sure about living there as a newbie English teacher. Never know, so good luck to you. Let us know how things pan out.

Thanks, and I will keep you updated. What pitfalls do you see? Is it just that I'll have to walk a lot to get to my school or are there other things?

There are lots worse places to be in Seoul. Depends on where they house you, though. If you're proximate to your school, then you can also plan on walks and buses to get to anywhere to do anything.

Beautiful area, so enjoy.
