Any ideas on how to get it to work? I bought a newish TV (2003), so I thought it would work no problems. Assumptions being the mother of all, well you know what, I get a lovely beautiful blue flickering screen. Brilliant! Just how I want a NZ$700 machine to entertain me to no end.

I don't have the money to go and buy an LCD and HDMI gear. Maybe next year, but I'm not that patient. Any ideas?

use a component cable ( 3 colour cable - red; blue and green ) which makes the picture visible. Use separate cable for audio.
