|

I have an extensive collection, but would rather make copies of my favourites to bring rather than the originals (for suitcase space savings, and in case something happens to the originals)
Has anyone tried this? Will I get hassled at customs for having "backup copies" on me? |

Yes, it is illegal. You sign on the customs form when entering the country that you have no fake, counterfeit goods, or copyright infringing products in your possession.
But as with many laws in korea, it is totally ignored - well, you would be very, very, very unlucky to have anything happen to you.
I have never had to open my bags even once for inspection after more than 50 trips into south korea.

Don't know the law of Korea regarding backup copies of legal DVDs, but here's what I would do.
I'd take a terabyte drive, copy the movies over there (how depends on whether time or space is important), use a partition manager to hide the partition thus making the drive appear empty/unformatted, take my chances at customs and reverse the process once at home.
A lot less conspicuous than carrying a hundred DVD disks around. |

I came over with 1.5 TBs of external drives with well over 1000+ movies and didn't have a problem...
I'd recommend an external just because it will be a lot simpler and will take a lot less space than a bunch of blank dvds. |

Who will know???? I've traveled a lot and nobody has ever opened my suitcases, except once when I actually had a replica scimitar, all wrapped up in gift paper, in my carry on.
Asia is the king of fako. Why would you not be allowed to bring copies in, if they themselves sell fakes in stores? |
