|
...kicks off in Hongdae this Thursday.
http://www.seoulfringefestival.net/
I'm planning to go to a lot of theatre, I'm into non-text based stuff like physical theatre/performance art and video theatre... basically all kinds of experimental theatre. I'm new to Seoul so I'm looking for theatre-going buddies to see some shows with. give me a PM if you're keen...
I'm also keen to see some of the experimental music stuff. |

| I tire quickly of Korean websites with the incompetence. If you have a link for English, then have something in English rather than the typical "coming soon" or "under construction" BS. For the festival it doesn't look that interesting just from what I was able to find through the website. Just a lot of 4th and 5th tier wannabe performers that can't get a real job. Sorry for the rant, probably not enough sleep last night. |

I was at the opening tonight, it was pretty cool. They have set up free outdoor stages on the street behind KFC and Burger King that runs parallel to the street where the subway station is. There will be free performances there every evening, check it out.
They have a hard copy program in English you can pick up, I know the lack of English on the website is annoying but get over it!

Most fringe festivals have a similar ideology, the whole point is that you don't need to be an established artist to get booked. This means you get some really stunning work that would be deemed too commercially risky by the mainstream venues, and which is often of a higher quality than the mainstream work. It also means that a few of the shows will be kinda shit. Ticket prices are low and there is a party atmosphere - it's up to you to take a few risks and find the shows you like.
So anyway I was talking to one of the organisers and he asked me to help spread the word amongst the foreigners, it looks like a great festival that has been a bit underpromoted outside the Hongdae scene.
I'll probably use this thread to post the details of some of the shows I'm planning to see, and then if you want to join me just get in touch. |

| Thanks for bumping this. Way back ages ago before I moved to SK, this was one of the things I got most excited about. Now, I nearly missed it because I haven't seen a single advertisement for it or heard anyone mention it...... |

My very limited Korea leads me to believe there is a performance at Yogiga (which is close to Hapjeong station) that might be music and something else???
Yeah, the English site really sucks. I saw adverts in a subway station, but that's about it. |

| went to hongdae today, checked out the art market, and got an english program. The whole thing does seem rather overwhelming though. Anyone really like something they've seen, or can request something for someone who doesn't speak korean? some kind of dance thing or something? |
