do you find the students are just nicer, easier to teacher and more willing to learn the further you are away from seoul city centre? i've had great classes out in nowon-gu and ilsan, but the ones in the city centre have generally been terrible!!!
what do you think? |

I've taught in Gangbyeon, and Hannam-Dong. The ages were different, but it's been my experience that the richer families are more serious, and the students have probably been taken out of the country and had some practice. Parents in Hannam-Dong were rich, rich, rich (that hagwon was 800,000 won a month and up).
The Gangbyeon job had a lot of snotty middle-class kids from Kangnam-wannabee families. I don't know how else to describe them. I had the feeling that some of them felt like they were owed something because they should be better off than they were. *laugh*
My Canadian former coworker had taught at two other schools, and she didn't like the kids in Gangbyeon either, on average. She said, "They're dumb."

I used to teach in Gangnam, and now I teach in a smaller city south of Seoul- the students here are far friendlier than in Seoul. |

I would reply, but I've only ever taught at one school and it's well outside of Seoul... so I don't know what kids in Seoul are like... except that those bastards keep stealing my best students. |

I think they're a bit better outside Seoul center. Getting them out of that Evolutionary rat wheele helps a lot. Some kids in Gangnam don't give a rat's a*s*s about studying. Just wanna play puter games all day and night! |

I think they can be very nice in the smaller places, just like the way small towns are friendlier than big cities. But it could just depend on the particular school and students. In some of the smaller places they won't be as used to foreigners and may not know what you're talking about if you mention things present in Seoul, like a Starbucks or something like that. A friend of mine is now in a very small town. He figures the kids there have never heard of McDonald's, but maybe saw tv commercials? |
