Could have been worse. It could have been "Kwak named chief neurosurgeon." |

J.B. Clamence,
Are you sure?
Think about the environment in Korea.
Who needs a good, clean environment?
Who needs a good, clean neurosurgeon?

I hope the new minister really actually is acquinted with environmental concerns- because in my experience Koreans generally equate environment as "that which shall be built upon".
The construction("de-struction") companies and labour unions, on which a lot of govt. money and jobs depend, are way to politically powerful for the mindless frenzy of needless and environmentally insensitive building programmes to end anytime soon.
hence, every area of estuary and tidal coastline in Korea is earmarked for reclamation, and every riverbank marked for concreting over into lifeless cement trenches. And every isolated house, due to be "connected up" by hugely expensive and damaging road- building projects. Money talks far louder than the small and powerless environmental groups in this country. Theres not even a single nature reserve in South korea:)
For the record, I used to work at a hagwon named "kwaks juniorland". The name is pronounced "Kwug". |
