Ello
I am leaving monday for South Korea, arriving at 6pm Tuesday...
Will my American Chase, mastercard/debit card work in ATM machines at the airport? (other places)
I hate using money exchange.. they give crappy exchange rates (usually) |

Yes. Look for "International" or "Global" ATMs. Your card should work there. There are also international ATMs throughout Seoul and most larger cities in Korea. But, you'll still get a bad exchange rate. I'd bring cash (Euros, Yen, or US Dollars) with you and exchange at the places in Itaewon or Myeong-dong. |

I had thought, and has been the case in my travels.... that when you withdraw from a bank atm they have to give you that days exchange rate, where'as a money exchanger can give you a lesser rate than the going rate. (ie XE.com et cetera.)
anyone? |

I think may be with purchases made on your card. I think if you're withdrawing cash you will get the bank's current exchange rate. I'm not certain though; if it were me I'd call my bank to ask.
The money changers in Itaewon and Myeong-dong give pretty good rates. Their rates are usually so close to the day's current rate that I wonder how they feed themselves. |
