Truthfully, I owe this country everything. This country has given me a wife and children and employment. If I had stayed in my country, there's a good chance I wouldn't have had any of those opportunities. By Western standards, I'm an ugly loser.
So I would like to take this time to thank South Korea. Thank you, South Korea for giving me so much. |

Rubbish! I provide a service for which I receive a paycheck. I owe nothing to Korea. Korea owes me
a refund for some VAT charges, but that's hardly worth hijacking a thread over. |

ask not what korea can do for you, but what you can do for korea...
if you can turn your fan off, when all about you are using theirs and laughing at you,
if you can push your way into the train while all around shout at you, and make no allowance for their pouting too,
if you're always late, but still get tired of waiting,
and beyond all doubt, love eating choco-pies,
and getting wasted, and feigning interest in figure skating,
and yet don't look too good, from drinking with the boss all night...
...you'll be an ajosshi, my son. |

From reading a bit of your blog, I assume you're in the military. Were you a teacher before joining? Or am I just reading it wrong and maybe you're a civilian working for the military? |

I say a lot of bad things about Korea, but I've had a lot of fun here. I met my beautiful girlfriend in this country, and so no matter how bad things get, I'm always grateful. |

Now, I just read your blog. This, and that, all remind me of a guy who used to post on here years ago, who got into a lot of trouble.
If this is you, nice to see you again. I always got a kick out of your writing.
If this is not you, please disregard this message. |

I agree. Lots of people hate on Korea, because it's dirty, the people are racist toward us, it's stressful, etc.
But we really should be grateful for the financial security it provides. And other perks, like the dating scene, safe streets, lax laws in many ways, being able to live in Asia, etc.
Overall it's a decent gig. |

I'd have to add my $0.02 and 2nd or 3rd the opinion. It's been a great ride for me.
It ain't perfect, but I'm far better off here than in that sh$thole that America has become
I love Korea and will likely stay here for a while longer |

Thanks to the demonic demand for native English speakers created by the powers that be and have been in the recent and not-so-recent past! Seriously I think we are all seeing one the major benefits of coming from powerful countries in this line of work! |

I would say nothing...that I don't already do. I do my job to the best of my ability, enjoy my students and feel happy when they improve. I enjoy being in Korea and often talk about it's many charms.
I would say Korean still owes me a bit...not much, just a few little policies here and there.
For starters I want the E2 visa to be changed to a more common work visa, where once you have it you can teach for any employer (provided they take proper provisions to ensure that unqualified teachers are not suddenly working in places they shouldn't...and why the hell isn't the Korean government doing more to train and qualify teachers?). Make it legal for those on work visas to work for a few employers and legally do private tutoring. Make it legal to do volunteer work, stop making me come down to immi every year to renew and stop making people go to Japan. Allow me to become a permanent resident more easily. Finally stop letting my boss rip me off.
Sometimes I feel if Korea treated there foreign teachers with a little more respect they'd get heap loads more of it from this board and those people we think are trash teachers would move elsewhere to more seedy pastures. |
