Been looking at what seems to be a nifty wee job in Anyang, before I head up there to check it out, I'd dig some input from someone who has lived there.

What is this 'burb like? Ritzy, crumby?
Am I right in thinking that it is near a mountain and a big park?Kwangaksan?(sp!)
How far from Itewon, Chongno etc?
Don't really give a stuff about how many westerners live there, but other than that I'm interested in any info anyone has to offer....Thanks, RRob

Firstly, Anyang is a reasonably spread out city, and like any city it has it's good and bad neighborhoods. If it's Pyongchon-Dong where you thinking about moving I can give you some info.
I love the place. The roads are wide, traffic is light and there is an abundance of excellent mountains (my personal favorite is Moraksan) to hike around. Easy access to Seoul via bus or Subway. For example, the 1670 Blue bus can get you to Jamshil in 20-25 minutes. Or, if you have a car, there are a number of excellent expressways to speed you around Seoul and Kyonggi Do.
The general environment is less dirty than Seoul and the air generally cleaner, however the close proximity to Seoul precludes a big difference.
There are also an abundance of supermarkets. Carrefore, lotte Mart, Walmart, Kims Club and Newcore to name the big ones.
If movies are your thing you have several choices, CGV Pyongchon Station, Lotte Department Store next to Anyang station and Kims club at Beomgye station.
There is a nice lake called Beguin Hosu behind Moraksan where you can hire rowboats, ride the banana boats or rent a speedboat. Also within close by are Seoul Grand Park and the Horse racecourse.
I would much prefer to live back in Anyang than Seoul, and often cruise down to hike the hills and eat at my favorite mountain restaurants.

Did you go to the hip hop night on friday? That was pretty cool. And weird.

I like Anyang. It's a nice little city. Has enough stuff you keep you entertained, and seoul is only a train ride away if you get bored. There are a few mountains around. One of the accesses to Surisan is about a 3 min walk from my house. I like it.

Maybe you can't find jobs posted for anyang, because there are none? Wink
