Can someone tell me if it's possible to get a loan in Korea while being a foreigner? I'm on an E2 visa teaching here until March but plan on staying here for at least a few years.
If not, is it possible to get a credit card without having to put down some deposit? I've heard of the Samsung card but I can't get that card because after inquiring, the rep told me my hagwon was not listed in their list of schools.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks! |

Yes it's possible but you need to be teaching at a Public School. No Hagwons, and i don't blame them.

Hard for an E-2 to do anything. Can you get a Korean co-signer?
Really doubt it unless he's your brother in law. And even then, that's pushing it. |

My only question is:
Why do you need a loan on an E-2?
Also, the purpose of the loan will help clarify the answer. Although I can only assume this from my dealings in other countries. |

makes sense for people on E2 visas not being able to get loans especially with alll the midnight runners and people who just leave the country without notice. ITs a 1 year temporary visa. there Shouldn't be anyreason why you would need a loan. None of my international friends in canada ( koreans) can take loans out even on a 3 year working visa unless the Bank absolutely trusts you and or you have a cosigner able to pay it off incase you cant/runaway . Even then its stretching it.
You'd be surprise how many people borrow money and run out of the country and not pay it back. I know at least a dozen friends with canadian passports who decided to go back to their home country and never come back cuz they dont want to pay their 40k student loan =p. |
