I'm the first (and often the last) to criticise Koreans' slavish over-reaction to the latest health threat, but this time I'm sitting pretty; I arrived back from my summer hols in the UK yesterday to be told I had to stay away from school for this week to protect the children (I work for EPIK in Busan). It's not just me - my co-teacher told me a lad in her homeroom is staying home this week, too. I didn't ask if this would be counted as sick days, unpaid leave, or what. I'm gearing up for the "I envy you" comments next week.

Anyone else out on enforced quarantine?

I had my 7 days extra off two weeeks ago and as an added bonus my co-teachers had their 7 days last week which meant they were not at school and my classes were cancelled on Friday. I also have been changed to two new schools that don't start until Sept 1st so I am sitting at home during those schools days on my schedule.

Ya, be extra careful. They just put out the statistics for women with the swine flu.

Swine Flu is a drag. I've got young kids.

Like we don't have enough problems battling the next Great Depression. Here's a killer virus coming down the pike.

What next? Locusts? Will frogs drop from the sky?

I'm more worried about how it might affect my wife, the effects of unproven drugs like Tamiflu on a fetus, and if it might cause her to miscarry or something.

Not frogs, but the bees and bats are dying...

If I recall correctly, the percertage of fatalities that were pregnant women was like 5%, which is much greater than their percentage in general society.

More people have died from the regular flu people. Don' t buy into the fear.

Disney warned us about fear in society with Chicken little-maybe we should watch it again.

One thing I don't get about the Swine Flu is the containment policy. If this flu is, or at least is going to be, just like any other seasonal influenza out there, our plans of containment won't work. Maybe the governments are trying to hold off the disease until an efficient vaccination is manufactured in large quantities? Yup, that must be it.

Anyway, isn't it better to fall sick as soon as possible (i.e. first wave = now) as the next strains of this flu will be stronger and more life-threatening than the one out there right now? As I see it, we should fall sick as soon as possible and build up a resistance/immunity to the next waves of this flu.

The more people doing this, the more chances the virus will have to develop a new strain. Right?

I had the flu a month ago. Dunno if it was swine flu, but it was bad. I was in Belgium and they had their first fatality (a young healthy woman Shocked ) right when I was sick.

hahaha...I'ts funny. People whine when they have no job, and they whine when they do have a job. What do people want? And I get so sick of hearing so many people complain every single freaking Monday about how it is Monday. Negativity rules for many I guess. When I am working, I hardly ever complain about Monday, and I sure don't whine on facebook every Monday the way some do.
