I noticed half the job wanted ads on various websites are now Filipinos.
Where the hell did they come from?
What kind of visa do they have??
Are they teaching illegally??? |

If they are trying to get jobs on that board, then there is a good chance.
Some of them are probably married to factory workers. The majority might be a part of the new program to bring Filipinos and East Indians in to teach in public schools, and are trying to scrounge-up some illegal work on the side. |

| The ones I see advertising usually have spousal visas. |

I think they come from places like Cebu, Davao, Luzon, and oh my god so many from Manila. I know they don't come from Shanghai, Vancouver, or Duseldorf. Watch out they will work for a stick of meat a day and take your jobs.

Since they are Filipinos they probably come from The Philippines.
Seriously, I heard some time ago that the Korean government was going to change the law and allow Filipinos to teach. Does anyone have any actual, verifiable news in this regard? By the way, my wife is Filipino & she most certainly will not work for a stick of bread as some cretin has suggested. |

| Yes, but you're a puppet. How much lower can your wages be? |

They could drive wages down.
That is, if their numbers come in the thousands.
Otherwise the biggest threat is the one facing the world in general. People are willing to accept less money for more work. As job seekers flood the job market, employers will try to cut costs and wages.
Westerners that accept positions (like the SMOE contract I signed) that don't reimburse flights and pay bonuses, set the ball rolling for major changes in the market in general.
It seems these changes might be here for a while, until market dynamics shift again. If it starts with SMOE, EPIK, GEPIK, you can guarantee it will filter down to the hagwons.
The Filipino and Indian workers will have different stories all together. I imagine they'll be paid similarly (though likely less) for comparable degrees. |

I've only met 2 of these "mythical" fillipino teachers from the phillipines who are working in hagwons or school....one was married to a old white guy also working in korea(eewww)....not sure about the other.
All of the phillipino teachers I know here come from the good ol' USA or Canada.
I've met Indian teachers from India, but they were working in other fields(like Yoga)...
The Indian and fillipino english teacher invasion is not coming anytime soon. |

| Factory workers cannot bring their spouses to Korea. The Filipinas I have met are either married to Korean men and Korean citizens or students. Both can be legal and are cheaper than other English teachers. Many Filipina teachers in the past were told to tell their students they were Hawaiian or otherwise US citizens. |
