I am in my last two weeks of my one-year contract at a GEPIK public school. My salary has remained the same all year, and so has my girlfriend's (separate GEPIK public school).
We just went to the pension office for reimbursement, and it turns out that, in July, our schools started reporting a lower salary for us to the National Tax Service, thus our pension contributions went down too. My girlfriend's salary was reported as even less than mine, even though we make the same amount of money.
Now, I'm entitled to 200,000won or so less pension than I would have gotten if things had remained constant all year, and my girlfriend to even less.
Of course, I'll go ask my school about it tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, is there some logical or legal reason why our two schools (which sometimes communicate with each other) would change, a few months before the end, how much is reported to the Tax authorities for our monthly salary?
Thanks in advance. |

They're undoubtedly screwing you. And, from experience, the pension office staff are very hit and miss in terms of helpfulness and advocation. There are many different pension offices in Seoul.
Here's the national pension service website: http://www.nps.or.kr/
There's a Q&A section on the English page. They take private inquiries, and are pretty quick in responding. |

Also, your contract should explicitly state what you get paid... |
