Hi,

I've been in touch with the Ministry of Education, and have asked if I can speak with them about the TALK program. It sounds as if an interview MIGHT happen in the next week. If you have any questions you would like to ask about the TALK program, then post them here. I'll add them to my list for a new podcast on:

What I would like is basic statistics. How many people are in the program. How many people left early or even renewed? What is the general make up Korean-Americans or wagyguk students? Do they fill their quotas? Do they consider it a success or just doing ok?

You should also try and get a suppliment interview with some teachers who did talk!

Good Luck can not wait to listen to.

Ask them why they have no response to the media printing accusations of 'unqualified teachers' when the Talk program developers were the ones that lowered the standards to attract cheaper labor.

Great question, albeit one that may go unanswered.

I'm sure they won't answer a question regarding how many traditional NSETs were replaced by TaLK teachers and whether this has anything to do with the 100 NESTs contracts being canceled at the last minute. But, a rundown of current statistics would fill this gap...

How many foreign English teachers are currently (2009-2010 year) employed in each of the major programs (SMOE, GEPIK, EPIK); how many of these are TaLK participants? Compare with last year's employment statistics.

Will colleges/universities use TALK program experience for teaching hours that may be required for the student's degree? Even though this sounds more like a question for the colleges and universities, would the MOE work with them to validate the teaching time just as schools validate teaching time for future jobs teachers take?

Have any TALK people been sent to places they were not supposed to like a Seoul?

Are TALK teachers expected to seat warm once they finished their classes?

How else is the program helping with extra curricular activities. IE if Talk applicant is an Asian Studies Major do they help point him in some direction to helping with his degree. If it is an Education Major do they provide any teacher training?

Since TALK teachers do part-time, they don't stick around. It is dealt differently. They aren't included as an official teacher as much as the GEPIK, EPIK, or SMOE teacher.

You should start with 'What is Talk?'

The TALK program. Just another reason on my list that has lead me to dump Korea. The gov't complains about not having 'qualified' NESTs teaching in schools, so what do you do? They hire teachers with even lower qualification than the previous minimum qualifications.

TALK is just insulting to people who have qualifications. What is next? High school freshman?

I am tired of it. I am glad that I am going to make some real money in a country that actually only really hires teachers with qualifications and pays them accordingly.

While I love Korea a lot, we all need to face the music. This country is really only for entry level teachers. If you are truly qualified, there are better places where you can make more money.

This country continually contradicts itself.
